When things are going wrong with your septic system, there is a chance that all you might need is drain field cleaning. However, if the problems are more serious than some extra debris clogging up your system, you may need to consider septic repair.

How to Know When You Need Septic Repair

Although it is sometimes difficult to know that you have a problem, considering your septic system is largely underground, there are some telltale signs that septic repair might be the way to go:

  1. Water is slow to drain. If your sink fills up just from you washing your hands, and the water stays in the sink bowl for an abnormal amount of time, you clearly have some sort of plumbing issue. Although this does not immediately spell danger for your septic system, it is certainly something to keep your eye on, especially if the issue is widespread or you start noticing other problems as well.
  1. A bad smell is coming from your pipes. This can indicate that there is a bacterial or waste buildup somewhere in your pipes, which is traveling up into your sinks and toilets. When you flush or send water down the drain, it can change the pressure in the pipe system, allowing the unpleasant air around the buildup to escape up the drain and into your home.
  1. There are pools of water in your yard. Just as mysterious bruises can indicate internal bleeding, soggy patches in your yard, even when there has been no rain, often indicate water seeping out of underground pipes.
