Our team at Sewer & Drain Medic is here to help you keep your septic system in good working order, and that includes every part, from the tank itself to the drain field. If you are not familiar with how septic systems work, allow us to explain: solid waste remains in the tank until it is removed via pumping, but liquids pass through to the drain field, a series of pipes and filters that treats the water and slowly releases it back into the soil.
From time to time, your drain field may need to be cleaned in order to keep it functional. Here are a few signs that you need drain field cleaning services:
- Pooling Water- One sign that you may need drain field cleaning is the presence of standing water on your lawn, particularly if the puddles are over the drain field pipes. This means that liquid is leaking out of your drain field rather than draining it away like it’s supposed to.
- Changes in Grass- Another sign that you may need drain field cleaning is changes in the health of your grass. If there are patches where the grass is weirdly unhealthy or suspiciously lush and green, then your drain field is probably leaking—sometimes the toxins in wastewater cause the grass to wither, while other times it acts like fertilizer.
- Sewage Backups- If you notice that sewage is backing up into the sinks and drains in your home, then you may need drain field cleaning. This issue can be caused by a variety of septic problems, though, so it’s a good idea to have your system inspected before you decide on a course of action.
